Beekeeping experience

In this walk we will walk along a path through the gentle hills between the Greve and Pesa valleys, discovering one of the most remote architectural testimonies of Chianti.

Our first destination will be the Romanesque parish church of S. Stefano in Campoli, one of the oldest parish churches in the Florentine Diocese, first documented in 903 in a deed of sale of property between Deacon Stephen and the Abbey of Passignano.

The parish had to assume considerable importance in the territory, so much so that on several occasions its parish priests were recipients of papal bulls. Several obtained important religious appointments, and among the most famous were Giulio de’ Medici, future Pope Clement VII, and Candido Del Buono, a scientist and inventor of various physical instruments. After a visit to admire the interior and exterior of the parish church, we will have a chance to enjoy a beautiful view of the Chianti hills that slope gently toward the villages of Mercatale and Montefiridolfi.

The second part of our hike will help soften the exertions of the walk. In fact, the trail will take us to a farm, founded in 1934, where time seems to stand still, because work in the fields is still done today with the same dedication and respect for nature.

Big stars will be the beehives, which have always colored these fields, and freshly harvested honey, a delicacy that has made entire generations of young and old lick their whiskers. Ours will be a true sensory experience with bees, in which we will get to know and appreciate all the patient, tireless and highly organized work that goes into a drop of honey.
