Pizza making

The Chianti are not often associated with pizza, but the art of what is probably the most iconic food of Italian cuisine is practiced here as well. And with this hike WeHike takes you on a journey to discover the secrets of making a perfect pizza. But first, let’s take a step backwards.

The Via Francigena, which led Christian pilgrims from Canterbury, England, to Rome and then to the Holy Land, also crosses Tuscany for a long stretch, and in particular the Chianti area. Among the most fascinating roads and itineraries that wind along the ancient route, one of the most evocative is the Via dei Monasteri, which from Florence passes through the Casentino territory and reaches the Sanctuary of La Verna.
We will hike a stretch of this beautiful ancient road, which since the early Middle Ages has led armies of crusaders and believers to the holy places of Christianity and has brought travelers from all over Europe to the villages and towns of this territory.

Our loop hike will end in a family-run farmhouse where we will have the opportunity to learn the art of making pizza, one of the most famous dishes of our gastronomic traditions. With a spectacular view of the Chianti Rufina hills we will begin our experience: we will knead the dough together, pick seasonal vegetables from the garden and cook our favorite pizza. Finally, we will taste it together, naturally accompanied by Chianti Rufina wine, tipico della zona.
