Montefioralle Wine Tour

It was the year 1000… it seems like the beginning of a legend with knights, duels and fortresses in the heart of Chianti. Certainly the history of Montefioralle Castle has the same charm as a fairy tale, because it was in those years that the construction of a small fortified monastery on the top of the hill called Montefioralle (originally Monteficalle) began. Gradually, the locality began to be populated with small houses, and as the centuries passed, the settlement grew, becoming more beautiful, thanks in part to a number of wealthy Tuscan noble families who settled there: the Ricasoli, Benci, Gerardini and Buondelmonti families.

Slowly the village takes on the appearance of a real castle. The final transformation came thanks to Castruccio Castracani, a famous condottiere and lord of Lucca, who took the fortified abbey by force in 1325 and expanded its structure with towers and walls, making it one of the most impressive castles in Chianti. Thanks to its strategic location, the village of Montefioralle, which still dominates the Greve Valley and the ridge of the Chianti Mountains, expanded its prestige and power, and in the 15th century, under the rule of the Republic of Florence, it became the most important military and administrative center in the entire area. Our excursion to Montefioralle in Chianti, along the rolling hills characteristic of the area, will take us to admire the splendor of this village through picturesque views of rare beauty, “decorated” by woods on the summit, vineyards and peasant houses scattered in the farms. The walk will take us inside a family-run winery (the smallest in the area) that, thanks to only 5 hectares of certified organic vineyards, produces wines of extraordinary elegance.

We will then relax while tasting their flagship wines, including organic Chianti Classico, along with small local gastronomic delights, all while enjoying the spectacular view of Montefioralle, included in the list of Italy’s most beautiful villages.
