Truffle hunting

Our hike will take place in a magnificent forest in the heart of Chianti Classico. We will be guided by a truffle hunter and his loyal adventure companions, some trained dogs that will help us in the hunting truffle, the “black diamond”. It will be a chance for us to talk about what truffle hunting entails, the sacrifices that it imposes, and the satisfaction that it provides, in addition to secrets and fun facts about the centuries-old forests and plants that hold this precious gem among their roots.

Harvesting truffles in Tuscany is an ancient tradition that dates back to the Romans and is particularly connected to the culture of Mediterranean populations. However, it has remained essentially unchanged over the centuries because it has never lost its spirit of a captivating “game” in nature: a game that hordes of enthusiasts continue to play and which is based on relationship between man and dog, a symbiotic bond that has to be built and nurtured over time and that is crucial for success. At the end of our journey, we will deservedly sit down together around a table to taste the harvested truffles, paired with foods from the Tuscan culinary tradition, the simplest and purest of all. And to accompany the “king of the table” — as the truffle is called —, we will enjoy some typical wines from the region, particularly Chianti Classico.
