Garda Trentino is a true hiking paradise to explore by backpacking and hiking boots on your feet to experience a rejuvenating weekend.
Lake Garda, the largest lake in Italy, stretches between Lombardy, Trentino-Alto Adige and Veneto, and in its northernmost part concentrates some of its most precious wonders.
A true natural jewel of Trentino, the lake is at the center of an ecosystem that will allow us to walk among trails and crystal-clear waters, rocky rises, dense forests and stunning views. We will explore some of the most beautiful mountains that crown the shores of Alto Garda and places that are still little-traveled, such as Mount Brento and its scenic ridges.
But our walks will also be a journey to discover the history of these places and their traditions, such as the food and wine traditions that we will appreciate as we visit refuges and mountain huts.
Distance: 7 km
Height difference: 300 m
After arriving and settling into the hotel in Nago, to oxygenate ourselves a bit from the journey we will take a walk along the Valletta di S. Lucia, the ancient road that connected Nago to Torbole, for a first, close contact with the majestic Lake Garda. Crossing a small silent valley and an ancient olive grove, we will walk along a path with one of the most beautiful views of the lake, a view that can reach as far as Sirmione on the opposite shore. We will pass under the Penede Castle of Nago, a medieval fortress now in ruins that once controlled the transit route between the Lagarina Valley and Lake Garda, to arrive on the shores of the lake and enjoy some relaxation. Finally, we will ascend to Nago along the path leading to the Marmitte dei Giganti, a fascinating place consisting of large glacial pits created by stone erosion. Followed by dinner at the hotel.
Distance: 15 km
Height difference: 700 m
On the second day we are going to explore Mount Brento and its ridges with a fascinating loop tour. It is a mountain that is still little known and appreciated despite the extraordinary panorama it offers from the summit over the whole of Lake Garda and the Brenta Dolomites. To reach the summit of Mount Brento at an altitude of 1545 m and its scenic ridges, we will walk through pastures and dense forests of spruce and beech, and with a little luck we will have the extraordinary opportunity to catch a glimpse of roe deer, eagles and chamois. We will then have lunch at the Malga San Giovanni. On the way back we will visit the archaeological area of San Martino: considered one of the oldest and most important fortified settlements in the Alps, it was prepared by the Romans to stop the raids of the "barbarians." It is in fact located on a rocky outcrop straddling the Upper Garda and Giudicarie regions, and covers more than 15,000 square meters!
Distance: 12 km
Height difference: 600 m
Our day will set out to discover a true natural beauty of Trentino, Lake Tenno. Situated at an altitude of 500 m and set in an unspoiled alpine landscape, it is a true oasis of quiet, an enchanted place that thanks to its turquoise and transparent waters is also called "Lake Azzurro," and if the weather permits we will also swim! We will then continue to the medieval village of Canale, included in the list of the "most beautiful villages in Italy," until we reach through a magnificent forest the San Pietro Refuge, at an altitude of 1000 m. Here we will have the opportunity to taste some delicious typical dishes but above all we will enjoy a superb view of Lake Garda. On the way back, to end on a high note, we will visit the Varone Waterfall where water from Lake Tenno falls thunderously for a full 90 meters! Back to the cars and departure.

Leoni Andrea, born in Arco(TN) and residing in the woods half an hour from the same, is an Environmental Hiking Guide regularly registered with A.I.G.A.E. A dynamic and sporty person, he loves to travel especially to remote destinations such as Alaska, Svalbard, Namibia… “self-organizing” trips. He also loves climbing, running, walking, and all this has just led him to Nepal to undertake hiking to Everest Base Camp, with the ascent of Lobuche East, 6,119 meters. He does not despise the sea and so how could he not also love surfing? A hobby that has led him several times to places like the Canary Islands and the Azores. He is finishing writing a guidebook/travelogue about this very beautiful Portuguese archipelago with which he has fallen madly in love. But he also loves lying down and relaxing in a hammock reading a good book in the beloved woods back home.
