A 3-day weekend exploring the northern side of Lake Garda, amidst woods, waterfalls, rocky peaks, alpine pastures, and medieval villages.
Garda Trentino is a true trekking paradise to be explored with a backpack and hiking boots for a rejuvenating weekend.
Lake Garda, the largest lake in Italy, stretches between Lombardy, Trentino-Alto Adige and Veneto, and in its northernmost part concentrates some of its most precious wonders.
A true natural jewel of the Trentino region, the lake is at the centre of an ecosystem that will allow us to hike among trails and crystal-clear waters, rocky rises, dense forests and stunning views. We will explore some of the most beautiful mountains that crown the shores of Alto Garda and places that are still little-travelled, such as Monte Brento and its scenic ridges.
This hiking trip will also be a voyage of discovery of the history of these places and their traditions, such as the food and wine that we will appreciate by visiting mountain huts.

Day 1 – Ancient road Valletta di S. Lucia – Castel Penede – Marmitte dei Giganti
Length: 7 km
Height difference: 300 m
After arriving and settling into the hotel in Nago, to oxygenate ourselves a little from the journey we will take a walk along the Valletta di S. Lucia, the ancient road that connected Nago to Torbole, for a first, close contact with the majestic Lake Garda. Crossing a small, silent valley and an ancient olive grove, we will walk along a path with one of the most beautiful views of the lake, a view that can reach as far as Sirmione on the opposite shore. We will pass under the Penede Castle of Nago, a medieval fortress now in ruins that once controlled the transit route between the Lagarina Valley and Lake Garda, to arrive on the shores of the lake and enjoy some relaxation. Finally we ascend to Nago along the path leading to the Marmitte dei Giganti, a fascinating place consisting of large glacial pits created by the erosion of stone. Dinner at the hotel.
Day 2 – Monte Brento – Panoramic Ridge Circuit – Ruins of S. Martino
Length: 15 km
Height difference: 700 m
On the second day we will explore Monte Brento and its ridges with a fascinating loop tour. It is a mountain that is still little known and appreciated despite the extraordinary panorama it offers from the summit over the whole of Lake Garda and the Brenta Dolomites. To reach the summit of Monte Brento at an altitude of 1545 m and its panoramic ridges, we will walk among pastures and dense forests of spruce and beech, and with a little luck we will have the extraordinary opportunity to spot roe deer, eagles and chamois. We will then have lunch at the Malga San Giovanni. On the way back, we will visit the archaeological area of San Martino: considered one of the oldest and most important fortified settlements in the Alps, it was set up by the Romans to stop the incursions of the ‘barbarians’. In fact, it is located on a rocky spur straddling the Upper Garda and the Giudicarie, and covers more than 15,000 square metres!
Day 3 – Lake Tenno – Canale – San Pietro Mountain Hut
Length: 12 km
Height difference: 600 m
Our day will begin with the discovery of a true natural beauty of Trentino, Lake Tenno. Situated at an altitude of 500 m and nestled in an untouched alpine landscape, it is a true oasis of peace, an enchanted place that, thanks to its turquoise and transparent waters, is also called the “Blue Lake”, and if the weather permits, we will even swim! We will then continue towards the medieval village of Canale, listed among the “most beautiful villages in Italy”, until we reach, through a magnificent forest, the San Pietro mountain hut, at 1000 m above sea level. Here we will have the opportunity to taste some delicious local dishes but above all, we will enjoy a superb view of Lake Garda. On the way back, to end on a high note, we will visit the Varone Waterfall where the water from Lake Tenno precipitates thunderously for 90 meters! Return to the cars and departure.

Leoni Andrea, born in Arco(TN) and living in the woods half an hour from the same, is a registered A.I.G.A.E. Environmental Hiking Guide.
A dynamic and sporty person, he loves travelling especially to remote destinations such as Alaska, Svalbard, Namibia… ‘self-organised’ trips. He also loves climbing, running, walking and all this has just led him to Nepal to undertake the trek to Everest Base Camp, with the ascent of Lobuche East, 6,119 metres.
He does not despise the sea, and so how can he not love surfing as well? Hobby that led him several times to places such as the Canary Islands and the Azores.
He is finishing writing a guidebook/travel narrative just about this beautiful Portuguese archipelago with which he has fallen madly in love. But he also loves to lie down and relax in a hammock reading a good book in the beloved woods at home.
