Our walk will begin near an enchanting village on a hillock in the heart of Chianti, a cradle of history and culture. In addition to delighting our eyes, the territory we will cross will also allow us to learn more about the geological features of Chianti, which have stratified over the centuries. Finishing our exploration in nature, we will reach an old barn that has been beautifully restored and now houses a handmade pottery workshop: the Tafano. During our workshop, a skilled artisan will show us how artifacts are created, basic techniques, and even a few secrets of the trade. We will get to learn about and practice, for example, the technique of “colombino,” an ancient craft, exclusively manual, still in use today here in Tuscany. It is used to create many terracotta objects from “galestro” clay, a particular type of clay prized for its extreme malleability, for its varied shades of color and for the strength it gives to artifacts. Of course, there will then be time to “put our hands to work”: we will practice making small objects that we can also decorate with a brush, according to the most traditional colors of Italian ceramics. Want to find out more about the art of terracotta in Chianti?Go to this experience. We will then leave our “works” to the care of the artisan, who will bake them in the kiln. To preserve a memory of this artisanal experience, we will be able to return to pick them up after two days or ask that they be sent directly to our home.
