Hike to Greve in Chianti with Chianti Classico wine tasting
The Municipality of Greve in Chianti is among the founding municipalities of the Wine Cities Association, which promotes knowledge and development of territories related to Chianti wine production, and the village of Greve in Chianti is now the largest center in the Chianti area. Its strategic location in the heart of Chianti Classico, has since ancient times made it the meeting point of three major pilgrimage routes-the Via Chiantigiana, the route to Valdarno and the route to Val di Pesa-and fostered its commercial development. It is no coincidence that the “mercatale in Greve,” that is, its connotation as a “market place,” has fostered exchanges, promoted meetings and intrigued travelers far beyond its geographical boundaries.
The hike will start from what is now Piazza Matteotti, the heart of the village of Greve in Chianti, in the center of which stands the large statue of Giovanni da Verrazzano, the famous Italian navigator, who was born in Greve in 1485. Leaving the village behind, we will begin to climb along a path, immersed in the landscape of the rolling Chianti hills, enjoying a beautiful view of the Borgo di Montefioralle. Step by step, poised between suggestions of the past and glimpses of unspoiled nature, we will cross thick forests of oak and chestnut trees, to admire the flora and fauna that animate the beautiful valley of Greve in Chianti. One last short stretch of bush will finally lead us to a renowned winery, at the slopes of Chianti, located within the borders of the Chianti Classico production area. We will visit the winery and taste the wines and discover how one of the world’s most famous wines is made: Chianti Classico.
